How much do removals cost?
The cost of a move depends on far more than distance. The biggest factors are the volume of your belongings (roughly, the number of bedrooms or the floor area of your premises), how easy the access is at both ends, and any extras you choose such as packing, furniture dismantling or temporary storage.
What movers price on
- Volume — a studio flat and a five-bedroom house are very different jobs. For homes this tracks bedrooms; for offices it tracks floor area and headcount.
- Access — the floor a property is on, whether there’s a lift, and parking near the entrance all change how long the job takes.
- Distance — a cross-town move costs less than a cross-country one; an international move is priced differently again (see below).
- Extras — a full packing service, dismantling and reassembly of furniture, and storage between dates all add to the quote.
How to get a competitive price
Give movers accurate details up front — the properties you’re moving between, the floors and access, and the extras you actually need. The more precise your enquiry, the more accurate and comparable the quotes you get back.
Comparing several firms on the same details is the simplest way to see a fair price rather than accepting the first number you’re quoted.
